Sometimes, after a large heart attack, patients will develop a non-functional, stiff scar tissue along the left ventricle of the heart. This tissue distorts the normal shape of the heart, and can decrease the heart's efficiency. Over time, heart failure develops. Surgical correction of this condition is known as the Dor Procedure (named for Dr. Vincent Dor), or endoventricular reconstruction. During this procedure, the scar tissue is removed from the chamber and the heart's normal shape is restored. The goal of the operation is to improve the heart's ability to contract, decrease tension on the normal muscle, and improve your symptoms and quality of life. |
